"Ghostbusters" Screening 10/27/2008

On Monday night October 27, 2008 the Arizona Ghostbusters attended a screening of "Ghostbusters" at the local United Artists theater. The theater held a trivia contest before the movie with Ghostbusters related trivia questions. After the trivia the team came in and passed out twinkies and Stay-Puft Marshmallow bags to the audience. When the movie was over the team posed for some pictures with audience members. A large portion of the audience were in GB shirts which was great to see. Screenings like this are certainly hope Ghostbusters will be around for along time.

Arizona Ghostbusters At The International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival 10/25/2008

On Saturday October 25th, 2008, the Arizona Ghostbusters attended the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival. The festival was held in it's new location at the Chandler Cinemas and expanded to four days. We set up a booth Saturday afternoon to collect donations for our MS Walk team but selling our Stay-Puft Marshmallow bags, Crunch bars, and Twinkies. As an added bonus our member John Yurcaba, a talented artist, offered caricature drawings for donations. These proved to be extremely popular. Later in the evening we returned to help judge the costume contest as we did last year. We had alot of fun and we'd like to thank the film festival and especially festival director Andrea Beesley-Brown for having us.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Step Out To Fight Diabetes Walk 10/18/2008

On Saturday morning October 18, 2008 the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in the Step Out To Fight Diabetes Walk in Prescott, AZ. The organizers of this walk saw us at the Diabetes Expo and our previous Diabetes walks in Phoenix and asked us to participate in their walk. They were very excited about having us and had us do a local television spot and put us in their newsletter to promote the event. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts only Jeff and Neal were able to make the long drive up but our participation was still very much appreciated. The organizers gave us a great introduction stage before the walk started. It was a 4 mile walk around the local reservation and we found out you can walk uphill both directions. During the walk we passed out "Diabetesbusters" stickers. It was a great event in a beautiful location.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Relay For Life 10/11/2008

On Saturday October 11th, 2008 the Arizona Ghostbusters attended the Relay For Life of the Southwest Valley in Goodyear, AZ. The event ran for 12 hours from 6 pm to 6am. The event was held at the local community park. Along the walk path each fundraising team set up a booth to sell various items such as food, shirts, and even face and pumpkin painting. Donations were collected by teams before the event and thru their booths at the event itself. At our booth we made our Stay-Puft Marshallow bags and also sold Crunch bars and Twinkies. One of the fundraising events was a basket raffle. Several of the main teams including ours assembled a basket. In ours we put a GB t-shirt, one of our logo hats, the dvd pack, some stickers and candy. We set up a TV at our table to play both movies and some cartoon episodes which often attracted groups and children to watch.

The event organizers were very excited about our participation in the event and honored us by putting our AZ GB logo on the back of the walk shirts and in the program for the event. It was a very emotional night at times as we've all lost someone to cancer. The highlight of the evening was the memorial luminarie walk.

Late in the evening they set up a large inflatable movie screen on the baseball diamond for everyone to play Rock Band. Since we usually play Rock Band at our team meetings it was only natural for us to join in. It was a long but fun night and I can say one of the few times it was cold. We're certainly looking forward to the next Relay. With the pre-relay donations and what all of our the teams collected currently over $7,000 was raised and the total should go higher after everything is counted.

Arizona Ghostbusters At 1st Friday Art Walk MS Fundraiser 10/3/2008

On Friday October 3rd, 20008 the Arizona Ghostbusters set up a MS Walk donation booth in our normal location in downtown Phoenix for the monthly 1st Friday Art Walk. It's always been one of our best fundraising methods for our charity walks by getting donations for pictures with us. It ended up being a busy night and we ended up collecting $200 for our MS Walk team. Once we get it loaded up on our team page we will be at around $400 in donations total so far. We still have a month till the walk so hopefully we collect more donations. At the Art Walk the International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival was hosting a Zombie Scavenger Hunt. Teams of zombies had to go to certain places in the area and collect items and take pictures with certain objects. We ended up being one of those objects.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Step Out To Fight Diabetes Walk 9/27/2008

While Matt and Trey were at the MS Awareness Night at Chase field on Saturday September 27th, 2008, across town Jeff, Matt S, Neal, and John were attending the Step Out To Fight Diabetes Walk. The walk was 3 miles around the Midwestern University campus. It was our first charity walk at night which really let the packs and PKE Meter shine. John wore his Real Ghostbusters toy pack with a spare suit and his brother Jeremy wore his Extreme Ghostbusters toy pack. Matt H was able to make it across town just in time to join us for the walk. The event went very well can we'd like to thank the American Diabetes Association for having us.

Arizona Ghostbusters At MS Awareness Night At Chase Field 9/27/2008

The Arizona Ghostbusters pulled double duty Saturday September 27, 2008. We had two events at almost exactly the same time at opposite ends of town. Matt H and Trey went to the MS Awareness Night held at a Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game in downtown Phoenix. A table was set up to recruit people for the upcoming MS Walk. The guys took donations for pictures with them for our MS walk team. We'd like to thank the local MS Society Chapter for allowing us to help out at the event.

Arizona Ghostbusters Visit Phoenix Children's Hospital 9/8/2008

On September 8th, 2008, the Arizona Ghostbusters were able to make their first visit to the Phoenix Children's Hospital. A children's hospital visit has always been our goal since we formed a few years ago.
We visited several floors, on each floor we started in the playroom and then went to each room to visit the children who were not able to leave bed. There were certain areas of the hospital we were not able to take pictures in however the staff was able to so the kids will still have a keepsake from the visit. Most of our pictures are from the playrooms and hallways. We wanted to do more than leave the children with just pictures of us, so we also had stickers made of our logo to give them and the parents. We also handed out some Real Ghostbusters coloring pages and puzzles from the Real Ghostbusters magazine, and crayons as well.

There was a great response from the children, the parents, and the staff. Some kids were very shy and others were very ecstatic. There were some very emotional moments because you certainly never want to see children in the hospital, but the parents and kids are some of the strongest people I have ever met and after meeting the staff, nurses, and doctors, I know these children are in good hands.

This was by far the greatest event we've done. It doesn't have the glamour of a big convention, but knowing that we made these kids forget about their troubles and lighten their day, if even for just a minute, made it mean the world to us. We hope to visit again soon.

For more information on the hospital, visit their website.

Arizona Ghostbusters At The San Diego Comic-Con 2008

The Arizona Ghostbusters attended the 2008 San Diego International Comic-Con in July. We were 6 members strong and participated in one of the largest Ghostbuster Franchise meet-ups ever. We joined the San Diego, Texas, Utah teams and other members from around the country. There were 29 busters total including our team. We got to enjoy the official Ghostbusters video game booth and a demo of the game. This was our first major outing using our new Arizona Ghostbusters logo arm patches and they were a big hit with people from everywhere. We had a great time and can't wait till 2009.

The Arizona Ghostbusters attended the Remember The 80's Party hosted by the Wrigley Mansion on 7/18/2008. All entry fees were donated to the cystic fibrosis foundation. There were over 600 people in attendance and $15,000 was raised for cystic fibrosis. We had a great time and we had an awesome response from the attendees. Local comedian Jeff Maxwell was in attendance with his awesome Knight Rider car bringing a bit more 80's to the party. We'd like to thank the party organizers for inviting us.

Fox 10 News Interview With The Arizona Ghostbusters 7/9/2008

Our local Fox station aired a interview with the team on the evening news. It was a great opportunity and experience for the team. Getting to hang out in the studio with the local anchors and crew was awesome. Everyone was very relaxed and the reaction of the lead anchor was priceless. They interviewed us for about 30 minutes, they filmed us walking around the news room interacting with the staff, and filmed a couple of us getting geared up. Their focus was on our history, charity events, and why we do this. Obviously they cut alot down for the time available. They didn't have any video of us at an event but worked some of our pictures in as well as clips from the movie itself. Seeing the no-ghost on a news broadcast was amazing in itself. Only a few minutes after this aried we got emails for event appearances. I think this really helped get our mission out to our local community. We'd like to thank the Fox 10 staff for this opportunity to showcase our efforts.

Arizona Ghostbusters At 1st Friday Art Walk MS Fundraiser 7/4/2008

Friday July 4th the Arizona Ghostbusters attended the 1st Friday Art Walk to host a booth to collect donations for our MS Walk team. We had to battle 107 degree temps and a brief dust storm early in the evening. We decided to drop the elbow pads for the night and roll up the sleeves. As always we accepted donations for pictures with the team. Luckily from our location we were able to see a fireworks show north and then later south of our location. We put flags our packs and wore some flag pins for patriotic flare. We collected $80 dollars in donations by the end of the evening. We'd like to thank everyone who came out, braved the heat and storm, and made a donation to this great cause.

Several pictures of the team are up on the Phoenix New Times slideshow for the night located
here.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Take Steps for Crohn's and Colitis Walk 5/10/2008

Saturday evening May 10th the Arizona Ghostbusters participated in the Take Steps for Crohn's and Colitis Walk held at the University of Phoenix (aka Arizona Cardinals) Stadium. We were a last minute addition to the walk and did not have enough time to form a team and raise funds for the walk but we hope we still made an impact at the event. Jeff, Matt H, and Esther started the evening and were later joined by Matt S. They had a carnival set up with play areas for kids as well as a band and food vendors. The Phoenix Suns and Coyotes mascots as well as Ronald McDonald also made an appearance. Despite not being an actual registered team, we did still participate in the walk which ran inside and along the side of the stadium. It was a great event and we hope to participate next year as an actual walk team and get some donations raised. We like to thank the walk for inviting us to help out.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Free Comic Book Day and Food Drive 5/3/2008

The Arizona Ghostbusters appeared at our local comic book shop Spazdog Comics on Free Comic Book Day 5/3/2008. Besides promoting Free Comic Book Day, we teamed with the shop to host a summer food drive for our local food bank. Summer is the lowest donation time for food banks. What we collected went to the John C. Lincoln Hospital and Dessert Mission Food Banks. We collected 167 lbs. of food and other much needed supplies. Also appearing at the shop was local superhero Citizen Prime. We'd like to thank Spazdog Comics owner Shawn Demumbrum for hosting the food drive.

Arizona Ghostbuters At Phoenix Diabetes Expo 4/26/2008

Saturday April 26th the Arizona Ghostbusters appeared at the Phoenix Diabetes Expo at the downtown convention center. It seems a strange place for us but we were asked by the local American Diabetes Association office to help them promote and recruit more walkers the Step Out to Fight Diabetes Charity Walk we participate in. They surprised us by giving us a booth to showcase our work and allowed us to pass out our information pamphlets and our flyers for our Free Comic Book Day food drive. It was a long day but well worth it. Two of us stayed at the booth and three of us walked the floor and stayed around the ADA booth for the walk recruitment. We had a great response and made alot of contacts with other non-profit groups that would like us to help them out at future events. The hall was busy the entire day and there alot of informative presentations and booths. We hope to be back next year. We'd like to think Mary Medola and the American Diabetes Association for letting us help out.

Arizona Ghostbusters At Phoenix Heart Walk 3/1/2008

Saturday morning March 1st, the Arizona Ghostbusters attended the Phoenix Heart Walk at Tempe Town Lake. It was by far the best walk we've attended so far in terms of the amount of walkers, location, and events before and after the walk. Our new recruit, John, and his father walked with us. He wore his old toy proton pack which was great. It was a 3 mile walk over the bridges crossing Tempe Town Lake and the surrounding park. Luckily it didn't start to warm up till the end of the walk. As we were moving through the crowds we could hear people comment on where they've seen us before, the comicon, Art Walks, and our other previous charity walks.

We raised $400 for the American Heart Association. It was alot of work but even more fun. We'd like to thank everyone who made donations to this great cause and all those who participated in the walk itself.

Arizona Ghostbusters at Phoenix Cactus ComiCon 2008

The Arizona Ghostbusters were at the 2008 Phoenix Cactus ComiCon. We were pretty busy the whole weekend. Friday night we popped in a screening of the "Return of the Ghostbusters" fan film screening. We passed out some twinkies and Stay-Puft Marshmallow bags to the crowd. After the screening we hosted a zombie history and survival skills. The panel was a huge success and we should have video up soon. After the panel we helped keep the zombies at bay during the zombie beauty pagent. We helped during the intermissions with the audience favorite judging and passed out some more marshmallows and twinkies.

Saturday afternoon we hosted a booth outside. At the booth we collected money for our upcoming walk for the American Heart Association and handed out recruitment flyers to potential new team members. Sunday we stopped by the masquerade and passed out some more marshmallows and twinkies and donated a Arizona Ghostbusters t-shirt to the winner's prize pack.

We'd like to thank the con for having us and hope everyone had a great time.
